2/29-3/1/2008: Caprock Canyons State Park, TX

The seven of us managed to head out of town on a Friday post-call afternoon for a quick family camping trip. The trip was to serve as both Sabrina and Monique's first camping trip and a shake down for a proposed backpack next month.

We arrived at the park around 3:00 and headed back to the South Prong tent camping area. After setting up the tent we went for a short hike. It quickly became apparent that neither of the girls had been in cactus country before. They brushed into several prickly pears and chollas before deciding the warnings to avoid these were sound advice.

The rest of the evening was spent around the campsite. We had burritos for dinner and watched the stars come out one by one. We even got to do a little star viewing through Wyatt's telescope. The evening wound down with reading some of the Chronicles of Narnia before turning in. Amazingly we managed to fit all seven of us into a four man tent.

Morning dawned to clear skies and a temperature of 40. We ate breakfast, took down the tent and headed to the playground to play. Our trip was a success. On our drive back home Sabrina asked "When are we going camping again".
